Robert

Idaho Dad

Robert loves being a dad to his son. It only felt natural when he and his wife Cat tried for a second child, but they ran into roadblocks. After undergoing IVF and two miscarriages, a positive pregnancy test made the couple overjoyed. “Third time’s a charm,” he thought.

Sadly, doctors soon found the child was not developing a brain—which was incompatible with life. Faced with this heartbreaking reality, the couple simultaneously was hit with the legal jeopardy of Idaho’s law, magnifying the medical, physical, and emotional turmoil.

“I think if we had been in a different state or if Idaho had different laws at the time we went through this, it would have been a much different experience… I think the law as it stands right now is imperfect because I think it was designed with the idea of promoting families in childbirth. And in lots of ways, I think it makes it harder for lots of people.”
