Krista

Expectant Mom

Krista’s parents fell in love with the very nature of Idaho in the 1970s and passed it down. She never imagined living anywhere else. That is…until motherhood came with a warning label here.

“Idaho has started to feel like a much less safe place to raise a family and intentionally continue to grow roots. And I think that has really picked up in the last few years. It’s kind of uncharted territory where it’s shaken the bedrock of what I always assumed.”

She’s expecting a baby girl in early November. Though the pregnancy has gone according to plan, she and her husband have considered a move to another state if the pregnancy should ever be deemed high risk. The ability to even make that drastic decision feels like a privilege, but it also feels like a haunting and necessary part of what should be a happy conversation. Krista is now watching her hopeful parent friends face similar gut-wrenching “stay or move” decisions just to feel safe having a family here.

“In my worst nightmares, I have this vision of my husband being put in the impossible position where we can’t move quick enough to get out of the state.”
